ARTS PROGRAM ASSISTANT
The First Peoples’ Cultural Council is a First Nations-run Crown Corporation mandated to support Aboriginal language, arts and culture revitalization in British Columbia, and is based in Victoria, B.C. We are looking for an energetic, highly organized, creative and capable Arts Program Assistant to join our team in supporting the effective administration and delivery of arts revitalization programs to First Nations communities in B.C.
Background
FPCC’s Arts Program supports Aboriginal artists and arts organizations working in all artistic disciplines. Currently, we realize this commitment through the delivery of funding through the Aboriginal Arts Development Awards, and the provision of guidance and technical support to artists and arts groups. The First Peoples’ Cultural Council’s Arts Program also provides an extensive email communication hub for artists and arts organizations, as well as other strategic initiatives and opportunities that develop awareness and value for First Nations arts and culture.
Position: Arts Program Assistant
The Arts Administrative Assistant performs administrative support duties for all Arts Program activities, including maintaining schedules, reviewing proposals, assisting with correspondence, answering telephone calls and other varied office tasks.
We are looking for an organized, positive and tactful individual who is interested in a career in the arts administration field. The ideal candidate has experience working with First Nations communities in B.C., and who has at least two years’ related experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Relevant post-secondary certificate focused on office procedures or management, arts, culture, communications, or an acceptable combination of equivalent education, training or experience in related fields
- At least two years of related experience
- Demonstrated solid organizational and communication skills
- Exceptional computer skills on PC and MAC, including familiarity with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook
- Good research and writing skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of and experience working with First Nations and Aboriginal communities in B.C.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated tact and judgment in interpersonal relationships
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ability to work with confidential and sometimes sensitive information
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to adjust priorities quickly
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and some proficiency in art and business vocabulary to effectively represent the First Peoples’ Cultural Council’s Arts Program
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated time management skills
This is a full-time position with a preferred start date in May 2017.
